Mrs. Mary Monica Brosso (Scott)

BROSSO, MARY MONICA ( nee SCOTT)

Returned to her eternal home and her God, on Friday, March 5, 2010, surrounded by her adoring family. Monica was the loving and devoted wife of Basil Brosso of Kingston Mills for 66 years. Loving mother to Brian (Karen) of Perth, and Gerard (Cheryl) of Gananoque. Deeply treasured grandma and nana to Michelle, Andrew, Christopher and Emma and Ryan, Adam and Kevin. Greatly missed by several nieces and nephews. Monica was the youngest daughter of the late James and Martha (Brennick) Scott of Smiths Falls and the sole surviving member of a family of 12. Monica was deeply devoted to her church and her faith. She was a member of the Parent Teacher Association of Holy Name School during its early years. Monica and many of her contemporaries voluntarily contributed their time and labour to the annual and highly successful summer fundraising Turkey Supper and Social at Holy Name Parish. She was an active member of the Catholic Women's League, first at St. John the Apostle Church, Kingston then at Holy Name of Jesus, where she received her 50 year recognition for her many contributions, including as an executive member. Monica also volunteered to assist several charitable organizations. She was recognized with a 25 year service award from the Canadian Cancer Society for her canvassing activities. She also spent 11 years as a Pastoral Care Volunteer at Providence Manor, Kingston, often providing spiritual assistance to those in their final hours. Monica received the Diocesan Laity award in conjuction with the 175th Anniversary of the Diocese of Kingston.

Friends will be received at the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOMES, 49 Colborne Street (at Clergy St.) on Tueday, March 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Church, Kingston Mills Road, on Wednesday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. Rite of Committal with prayers in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the Campaign Life Coalition in memory of Monica. (Donations by cheque onlyl)
